01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
When your coffee arrives, the light catches the precise, faceted facets of an Edo kiriko cut-glass cup. Located behind Olinas Kinshicho, Sumida Coffee pairs the artisanal glassware culture of Tokyo's traditional lower east side with carefully brewed coffee, all inside an unhurried space that preserves the quiet warmth of a traditional Japanese home.
The house specialty, Sumida Blend, allows you to choose your preferred roast profile. Opting for the dark roast yields deep roasted notes, full body, and a delicate lingering sweetness behind its gentle bitterness. Whether poured piping hot or served iced with clear cubes bobbing on top, the coffee highlights the geometric geometry of the faceted glass, presenting a refined visual presence that shifts with every sip.
A favorite indulgence alongside the coffee is the Coffee Soft Cream & Jelly. Refreshingly bitter house-made coffee jelly forms the base, crowned with creamy soft-serve ice cream infused with aromatic roasted notes, striking a pleasing harmony between rich sweetness and sharp coffee depth. Crunchy biscotti and toasted nuts garnish the top, bringing a crisp textural contrast to the smooth dessert.
Those looking for a savory bite will find freshly toasted breads on the menu as well. Thick slices topped with melted cheese in the cheese toast, or smeared with fruity jam in the jam toast, make ideal companions to the hearty, full-bodied dark roasts.
Seating is intimate, accommodating around 10 guests across counter and table seats under subdued background music. Operating mainly on weekdays, Sumida Coffee provides a calm afternoon retreat to open a book or quietly savor a cup of coffee away from the neighborhood rush.
